Honoring our Pandemic Experiences

Music for H.O.P.E. at Johns Hopkins Hospital

As part of Johns Hopkins' H.O.P.E. (Honoring our Pandemic Experiences) initiative, the Peabody Institute's Jotaro Nakano (Doctoral student in conducting) and JH's Program in Arts, Humanities, & Health collaborated to produce a virtual performance dedicated to the Johns Hopkins' community after two long years of COVID. The performance was filmed in JH Hospital's historic Hurd Hall on March 9th, 2022, and is viewable on Youtube in three installments.

Symposium on Social Prescription

To start the day off at Tanglewood, LSO will host an important symposium on Social Prescription, the exciting new public health concept of caring for the whole patient through the arts. We will celebrate the groundbreaking work that is being done today in the Commonwealth, and consider the rich possibilities of the future. Our keynote speakers will include Michael Bobbitt, Executive Director of Mass Cultural Council and Chris Appleton, CEO of Art Pharmacy. They will be joined by LSO musician Dr. Lisa Wong, a leader in the field of arts and health.

Jotaro’s Reflections from the National Organization for Arts in Health Conference

How many ways can your art heal our world?

On November 2nd, 2022, hundreds of artists, art administrators, healthcare professionals, health administrators, and community leaders from around the nation gathered at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore for the annual National Organization for Arts in Health Conference (NOAH CON 2022). As one of the Peabody Arts in Health Fellows at Johns Hopkins Hospital, I was invited to attend and participate in this conference. This reflection will explore some of the topics discussed at NOAH CON and my experience participating in the student panel.
